Capurganá is a town of the municipality of Acandí on the northwestern coast of the Gulf of Urabá in the Colombian department of Chocó, adjacent to the border between Colombia and Panama. Previously a base site for eco-tourists, since 2010 the town's main source of income has been migrants preparing to hike into Panama, across the Darién Gap. In 2019 it was described as a "smugglers' town".
As you arrive in Capurganá, you'll be greeted by the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, and the lush greenery of the surrounding jungle. The town itself is small and rustic, with a population of just over 2,000 people. But don't let its size fool you, there's plenty to do and see here.
One of the main attractions in Capurganá is the stunning beaches. Playa Aguacate and Playa Soledad are two of the most popular, and for good reason. The turquoise waters are perfect for snorkeling, and the soft sand is perfect for relaxing. You can also take a boat trip to nearby Isla Fuerte, which is a protected nature reserve with abundant marine life.
