Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Carrara is a town and comune in Tuscany, in central Italy, of the province of Massa and Carrara, and notable for the white or blue-grey marble quarried there. It is on the Carrione River, some 100 kilometres (62 mi) west-northwest of Florence. Its motto is Latin: "Fortitudo mea in rota", a reference firstly to the marble shipping industry from Roman times onwards.

Carrara's marble has been used for centuries by famous artists such as Michelangelo and Bernini, and it continues to be highly sought after today. The town is home to the largest marble quarry in the world, and it’s fascinating to see how the marble is extracted from the mountains and transformed into beautiful works of art.

Aside from the marble, Carrara has plenty to offer for its visitors. The town is nestled in the Apuan Alps, providing stunning views of the surrounding mountains. You can take a hike up to the peak of Monte Sagro, which stands at an impressive 1,748 meters above sea level, to get an even better view of the area.
