Zagreb is the capital and largest city of Croatia. It is in the north of the country, along the Sava River, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Zagreb stands near the international border between Croatia and Slovenia at an elevation of approximately 158 m (518 ft) above sea level. At the 2021 census, the city itself had a population of 767,131, while the population of the Zagreb metropolitan area is 1,086,528.

As you wander through the streets of Zagreb, you'll be transported back in time to the city's medieval past. The Upper Town, or Gornji Grad, is a must-see area filled with cobblestone streets, historic churches, and impressive architecture. Make sure to visit St. Mark's Church, with its colorful tiled roof, and the Lotrščak Tower, which offers stunning views of the city.

But it's not all about the past in Zagreb. The city is also known for its lively food and drink scene. Indulge in traditional Croatian cuisine like burek (a flaky pastry filled with meat or cheese) and fresh seafood. Wash it all down with a glass of local wine or rakija, a strong brandy made from fruit.
