Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Ravenna is the capital city of the Province of Ravenna, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. It was the capital city of the Western Roman Empire during the fifth century AD until its collapse in 476, after which it served as the capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom and then the Byzantine Exarchate of Ravenna. With a population of 156,475 inhabitants as of 2026, it is the 24th-largest city in Italy. Ravenna is also the second largest city in Italy by area with 653.82 km2.

From the 5th to the 8th century, Ravenna was the capital of the Western Roman Empire and later the Byzantine Empire in Italy. As a result, the city is home to some of the most stunning mosaics in the world, including those in the Basilica di San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

In addition to its rich history, Ravenna is also known for its delicious cuisine. The city is famous for its piadina, a thin, flatbread filled with cheese, meat and vegetables. Make sure to try it at one of the many street food vendors or local restaurants.
