Vieques, officially the Isla de Vieques, is an island and municipality of Puerto Rico, comprising the Spanish Virgin Islands together with Culebra. Located about 8 miles (13 km) east of the main island of Puerto Rico, it is about 20 miles (32 km) long and 4.5 miles (7 km) wide. Vieques is spread over 7 barrios and Isabel Segunda, its historic and administrative center. Residents of the island are known as viequenses. The population of the island is 8,249 as of the 2020 Census.

One of the most alluring aspects of Vieques is its pristine beaches. Just imagine yourself lounging on soft white sand, listening to the gentle sound of waves crashing on the shore. You can take a dip in the warm waters, go snorkeling and see colorful fish and coral reefs, or even try your hand at surfing. And if you're lucky, you might even spot bioluminescent plankton that glow in the dark!

But Vieques offers more than just beaches. You can explore the island's lush greenery and wildlife on a hike through the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, which covers over 18,000 acres. You might encounter wild horses or rare species of birds as you wander through the forest.
