The vicuña or vicuna is a wild South American camelid which lives in high alpine areas of the Andes. It is a relative of the llama, the domesticated descendant of the guanaco, the only other still wild South American camelid.

One of the most fascinating things about Vicuña is its close proximity to the Elqui River, which has played a pivotal role in shaping the town's landscape and identity. From the lush greenery lining the riverbanks to the towering peaks of the Andes Mountains in the distance, the views here are simply breathtaking.

Aside from its natural wonders, Vicuña is also home to several cultural landmarks that YOU won't want to miss. For instance, the Gabriela Mistral Museum is dedicated to the life and work of Chile's beloved poet and Nobel laureate, while the Solar de Los Madariaga Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's colonial history.
