About the property

History buffs welcome: Congress Hall has overlooked the Atlantic Ocean, in the town of Cape May, New Jersey, for over 200 years. Once known as "The Summer White House," Congress Hall has been a welcome retreat to many throughout the centuries.

Known as America's first seaside resort, the historical 19th century hotel offers 106 guestrooms, including newly renovated Junior Suites, each one individually named for the U.S. presidents or dignitaries who spent their summers there. Each Junior Suite is filled with pieces modeled after American heritage furniture with antiqued brass hardware, plush bedding and hand-dyed linen.

Located in the center of New Jersey's Victorian District, there is never a dull moment with loads of activities within arm’s reach. Guests can relax in private cabana tents on the beach, or enjoy a relaxing and serene day at Sea Spa. Or, it’s a quick 5-minute stroll to West End Garage, a hall stocked with 50 little independent shops that make Cape May’s retail scene so unique.

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Cape May consists of a peninsula and barrier island system in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is roughly coterminous with Cape May County and runs southwards from the New Jersey mainland, separating Delaware Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. The southernmost point in both New Jersey and the northeastern United States lies on the cape.

One of the most striking features of Cape May is its abundance of Victorian homes and buildings. In fact, the town is home to the largest collection of Victorian architecture in the country. Walking through the streets, you'll feel as though you've been transported back in time with the intricate details and vibrant colors of these historic homes.

In addition to its architecture, Cape May is also famous for its beaches. Miles of soft, white sand and crystal-clear waters make it the perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and beachcombing. There are several beaches to choose from, including Higbee Beach, Poverty Beach, and Sunset Beach, each with their own unique charm.
