Reims is the most populous city in the French department of Marne, and the 12th most populous city in France. The city lies 129 km (80 mi) northeast of Paris on the Vesle river, a tributary of the Aisne.
Reims is perhaps best known for being the traditional site of the coronation of the kings of France. The magnificent Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is where the coronation ceremonies were held. This Gothic masterpiece is a sight to behold, with its intricate carvings, beautiful stained-glass windows, and soaring towers. You can take a guided tour of the cathedral to learn more about its history and architecture.
Apart from the cathedral, Reims is also home to several other historic landmarks. The Palais du Tau, a former archbishop's palace, is another UNESCO World Heritage site that is worth a visit. This magnificent building now serves as a museum, where you can see a collection of treasures related to the cathedral and the coronation ceremonies.
