Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Fez or Fes is a city in northern inland Morocco and the capital of the Fez-Meknes administrative region. It is one of the largest cities in Morocco, with a population of 1.256 million, according to the 2024 census. Located to the northwest of the Atlas Mountains, it is surrounded by hills and the old city is centered around the Fez River flowing from west to east.

As you explore the narrow streets and alleys of the medina, you'll be transported back in time to the medieval era, with its towering walls and intricately carved buildings. The city is home to many historical landmarks, including the stunning Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University, which was founded in the 9th century and is considered one of the oldest continually operating universities in the world.

Fès is also famous for its vibrant souks, or markets, which are filled with a dazzling array of goods, from spices and textiles to leather goods and ceramics. You'll find everything from traditional Moroccan clothing to handmade jewelry and pottery, all made by local artisans.
