Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Holten is a village in the municipality of Rijssen-Holten in the Dutch province of Overijssel. Holten is located in a forested area just south of the Holterberg, a 65-metre (210 ft) hill, and is part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The National Park is the only area in the Netherlands in which the black grouse can be found. This grouse population is on the brink of extinction, so parts of the National Park are closed to the public during its breeding season.

As you arrive in Holten, you'll immediately be struck by the area's natural beauty. The town sits in the midst of the stunning Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park, which boasts rugged hills, dense forests, and rolling heathlands. Hiking and biking trails crisscross the park, offering endless opportunities to explore the great outdoors.

In addition to its natural wonders, Holten also boasts a rich cultural heritage. The town is home to the Holterberg Museum, which chronicles the history of the area and showcases artifacts from its prehistoric past. The region's unique customs and traditions are also on display at the Museum De Waag, which features exhibits on local folklore, crafts, and costumes.
