Eildon is the largest committee area of the Scottish Borders Council, with a population of 34,892 at the census in 2001. It contains the three Eildon Hills, the tallest in the Scottish Borders.
Nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, Eildon offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The town is situated at the junction of the Goulburn and Jamieson rivers, and is surrounded by Lake Eildon, Victoria's largest inland water body. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, water skiing, and other water-based activities.
Eildon is also home to the Eildon Dam, which was built in the 1950s to provide water for irrigation and hydro-electricity generation. The dam is an impressive feat of engineering and can be visited as part of a guided tour.
