Pinnawala is a village in Kegalle District of Sri Lanka and is around 90 km from the capital, Colombo. It is well known for its elephant orphanage.

The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is one of the largest and most popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 to provide a home for orphaned and injured elephants that were found in the nearby jungles. Today, the orphanage is home to over 90 elephants, making it the largest captive elephant herd in the world.

Visitors to the orphanage can watch the elephants being bathed in the nearby river, see them being fed and even take a ride on their backs. The orphanage also has a museum where YOU can learn about the history of elephants in Sri Lanka and the efforts being made to protect them.
