With a population of 76,328 at the 2020 census, Scranton is the sixth-most populous city in Pennsylvania and the most populous city in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It is part of the Wyoming Valley metropolitan area, which includes five cities and more than 40 boroughs forming a contiguous urban corridor with an estimated 574,000 residents. One of the highlights of Scranton is its rich industrial heritage. The city was once a major hub for coal mining and railroads, and you can still see evidence of this history in the many museums and attractions dedicated to the industry. For example, the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour takes you 300 feet underground to explore an abandoned coal mine, while the Steamtown National Historic Site offers a fascinating look at the role of steam locomotives in shaping the region.

But Scranton isn't just a place for history buffs. The city is also home to a thriving arts and culture scene, with numerous galleries and theaters showcasing local talent. The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple, for instance, hosts a variety of performances and events throughout the year, from concerts to comedy shows.
