Discover Fehmarn

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Fehmarn is an island in the Baltic Sea, off the eastern coast of Germany's northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein. It is Germany's third-largest island, after Rügen and Usedom. Fehmarn is separated from the German peninsula of Wagria in Holstein by the Fehmarn Sound, and from the southern Danish island of Lolland by the Fehmarn Belt. It is connected to the Holsatian mainland by the Fehmarn Sound Bridge. The island belongs to the district of Ostholstein. The closest larger towns on the mainland are Heiligenhafen and Oldenburg in Holstein. Right opposite Fehmarn, on the tip of the Wagrian Peninsula, is Großenbrode.

As soon as you step off the ferry onto the island, you'll be swept away by Fehmarn's serene beauty. The island is home to a variety of stunning beaches, where you can relax on the sand and soak up the sun. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try your hand at windsurfing or kiteboarding in the island's crystal-clear waters.

Beyond the beaches, Fehmarn is also home to a number of quaint villages, each with its own unique charm. In Burg, the island's largest town, you can explore the historic castle and stroll through the charming streets lined with shops and cafes. In Petersdorf, you can visit the local farmer's market and sample some of the island's delicious local produce.
