Aljustrel, officially Town of Aljustrel, is a town and a municipality in the Portuguese district of Beja. The population in 2011 was 9,257, in an area of 458.47 km2. The present mayor is Nelson Domingos Brito, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is June 13.

Aljustrel is a peaceful and picturesque destination that offers a glimpse into the authentic Portuguese way of life. As you wander through its narrow streets, you'll be enchanted by the whitewashed houses with colorful borders and the traditional wrought-iron balconies overflowing with flowers. The town's main square, Praça da República, is surrounded by cafes and restaurants where you can savor delicious local cuisine while admiring the 18th-century fountain and the imposing church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção.

If you're interested in history and culture, Aljustrel won't disappoint you. This was the birthplace of three of the little shepherds who witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in nearby Fatima in 1917. You can visit their humble family homes, now turned into museums, and learn about their lives and spiritual experiences. The town also has a mining museum that showcases its rich mineral heritage and the hard work of the miners who extracted copper and iron for centuries.
