Hopetown is a town which lies at the edge of the Great Karoo in South Africa's Northern Cape province. It is situated on an arid slope leading down to the Orange River. Two of the largest diamonds discovered in South Africa, the Eureka Diamond and the Star of Africa were found at Hopetown between 1867 and 1869
Hopetown is a small town with a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s. It's nestled along the banks of the Orange River and surrounded by rugged hills and beautiful landscapes. The town's name is said to have come from the hope that diamonds would be found in the area, and indeed, diamonds were discovered in nearby Kimberley in the late 1800s.
