YOU can also experience the local culture by visiting the nearby Kuelap Fortress, a pre-Incan ruin that sits atop a mountain. The fortress is a remarkable sight, with stone walls and structures that date back to the 6th century. You'll learn about the history of the Chachapoya people, who once inhabited the area, and see breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
