Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Hanover is the capital and largest city of the German state of Lower Saxony. Its population of 535,932 (2021) makes it the 13th-largest city in Germany as well as the fourth-largest in northern Germany after Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen. Hanover's urban area comprises the towns of Garbsen, Langenhagen and Laatzen and has a population of about 791,000 (2018). The Hanover Region has some 1.16 million inhabitants (2019) and is the largest in the Hanover–Braunschweig–Göttingen–Wolfsburg Metropolitan Region, the 17th biggest metropolitan area by GDP in the European Union.

As you explore Hanover, you will discover a plethora of things to see and do. Nature lovers will relish in the town's many parks, including Codorus State Park, which boasts over 3,500 acres of land for hiking, fishing, boating, and camping. For a more leisurely outdoor experience, head to the Hanover Junction Train Station, where you can take a relaxing ride through the countryside on a vintage steam locomotive.

History buffs will appreciate Hanover's deep roots in the American Revolution. The town was a key site during the Battle of Hanover, and you can still visit the historic Hanover Junction Railroad Station, where President Abraham Lincoln stopped on his way to deliver the Gettysburg Address.
