Gateshead is a town in the Gateshead Metropolitan Borough of Tyne and Wear, England. It is on the River Tyne's southern bank. At the 2021 census, the population was 196,151.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Gateshead is the Angel of the North, a towering sculpture that stands at 20 meters tall. Designed by artist Antony Gormley, the Angel has become a symbol of the town and is visited by millions of people every year. Another must-see attraction is the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, a stunning piece of engineering that spans the River Tyne. This pedestrian and cyclist bridge is a marvel of modern design and is particularly impressive when it is lit up at night.

For those interested in history, Gateshead boasts a number of fascinating museums and heritage sites. The Beamish Museum, located just a short drive from Gateshead, is an open-air museum that tells the story of life in the northeast of England during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Meanwhile, the St. Mary's Heritage Centre is housed in a former church and offers a glimpse into the town's medieval past.
