Perast is a town in the coastal region of Montenegro. It is situated a few kilometres northwest of Kotor and is noted for its proximity to the islets of St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks.
Perast is a small town with a big personality. As you wander through the cobbled streets, you'll be transported back in time to the 17th and 18th centuries, when Perast was a bustling trading port. The town is full of beautifully preserved Baroque architecture, with grand palaces and churches lining the waterfront.
One of the highlights of Perast is the two small islands located just off the coast. Our Lady of the Rocks is an artificial island that was created by sinking old ships and filling them with rocks. Legend has it that the island was created by local sailors who found an icon of the Virgin Mary on a rock in the sea. They vowed to build a church in her honor, and the island was born.
