Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Hersonissos is a town and a local government unit in the north of Crete, bordering the Mediterranean / Aegean Sea. The town is about 25 kilometers east of Heraklion and west of Agios Nikolaos. What is usually called Hersonissos is in fact its peninsula and harbour. It is part of the Heraklion regional unit. It is situated 25 km from the Heraklion airport and 27 km from the Heraklion port. The seat of the local government unit is the village of Gournes.

Nestled on the northern coast of the island of Crete, Hersonissos is a popular tourist destination for those seeking sun, sea, and sand. With its crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and bustling nightlife, it's no wonder that Hersonissos is a firm favorite amongst holidaymakers.

But Hersonissos is more than just a place to soak up the sun. The town is steeped in history and culture, with plenty of opportunities to explore ancient ruins and traditional Greek villages. You can take a trip to the nearby village of Koutouloufari, where you'll find whitewashed houses and picturesque streets dotted with tavernas serving up delicious local cuisine.
