Durrës is the second most populous city of the Republic of Albania and seat of Durrës County and Durrës Municipality. It is one of Albania's oldest continuously inhabited cities, with roughly 2,500 years of recorded history. It is located on a flat plain along the Albanian Adriatic Sea Coast between the mouths of the Erzen and Ishëm at the southeastern corner of the Adriatic Sea. Durrës's climate is profoundly influenced by a seasonal Mediterranean climate.
As one of the oldest cities in Albania, Durrës boasts a wealth of historical landmarks. The city's most famous attraction is the Durrës Amphitheatre, an ancient Roman amphitheater that dates back to the 2nd century AD. The amphitheater is an impressive sight, and it's easy to imagine the gladiatorial games and other events that were held here in ancient times.
Another must-see landmark in Durrës is the Venetian Tower, which was built in the 15th century to protect the city from Ottoman invasion. The tower is a great spot to take in panoramic views of the city and the sea.
