Cesenatico is a port town with about 26,000 inhabitants on the Adriatic coast of Italy. It is located in the province of Forlì-Cesena in the region of Emilia-Romagna, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Ravenna. Cesenatico's port canal was surveyed and drawn by Leonardo da Vinci at the request of Cesare Borgia, as part of his plans to fortify the nearby town of Cesena.
As you stroll through the streets of Cesenatico, you'll be transported back in time to a simpler era. The town's historic center features narrow cobblestone streets lined with colorful buildings adorned with flower boxes. The most iconic landmark is the Porto Canale, a picturesque canal that was designed by Leonardo da Vinci himself. Here, you can watch the fishing boats return from the sea with their daily catch, or take a boat ride yourself to see the town from a different perspective.
Of course, no trip to Cesenatico would be complete without indulging in the local cuisine. This region is famous for its piadina, a thin flatbread filled with cheese, meat, or vegetables. You can find this delicious snack at street vendors throughout the town. For a more formal dining experience, we recommend trying the seafood at one of the many restaurants that line the canal.
