Cognac is a variety of brandy named after the commune of Cognac, France. It is produced in the surrounding departments of Charente and Charente-Maritime, in an officially designated wine-growing region. This region is divided into six districts with different cognacs produced in each.

As soon as you arrive in Cognac, you'll be struck by the town's stunning architecture and picturesque streets. The town centre is home to a number of beautiful historic buildings, including the Château des Valois, which dates back to the 15th century. A guided tour of the chateau is a must, as it offers a fascinating insight into the region's history.

Of course, the main attraction in Cognac is the brandy that bears its name. You'll find a number of distilleries and cellars in the town, offering tours and tastings of the famous spirit. One of the most popular is the Hennessy distillery, which has been producing cognac for over 250 years. A visit here will give you an insight into the production process, from the selection of the grapes to the ageing of the finished product.
