Located in the heart of Czechia, the small town of Dolany has a rich history dating back to the 13th century. While exploring the town's archives, local historian Jan Novak stumbled upon a fascinating discovery that sheds light on the Czech Republic's former name.
According to Novak, Dolany was once known as "Bohemia Superior" or "Upper Bohemia" in English. This name was used in the Middle Ages to refer to the region of Bohemia that lies above the Elbe River.
This discovery challenges the commonly held belief that the Czech Republic was always known as "Bohemia" throughout history. In fact, the name "Czechia" only came into official use in 2016, replacing the previous name of "Czech Republic."
