Xi'an is the capital of the Chinese province of Shaanxi. A sub-provincial city on the Guanzhong plain, the city is the most populous in the province and third-most populous in Western China after Chongqing and Chengdu, as well as the most populous in Northwestern China. Based on the city's 2025 1% population sample survey, its estimated year-end resident population was 13.24 million, of whom 10.72 million were urban residents.
As you wander through the ancient city walls, you'll feel like you've been transported back in time to the Tang Dynasty. The city is famous for its Terracotta Warriors, which were discovered in 1974 and have become one of the world's most popular tourist attractions.
In addition to the Terracotta Warriors, Xi'an is also home to the Great Mosque, which is one of the oldest and largest mosques in China. The mosque is a fascinating mix of Chinese and Islamic architecture, and it's a great place to learn about the history of Islam in China.
