뮌헨(라틴어: Monachium, 독일어: München, 듣기 , 바이에른어: Minga, 문화어: 뮨헨)은 독일 바이에른주의 최대 도시이자 주도시이다. 이 도시는 알프스 북부의 이자르강가에 위치한다. 뮌헨은 독일 베를린과 함부르크에 이어서 제3의 도시이다. 약 142만명이 시 경계선 안에 상주하고 있다. 1972년, 뮌헨은 하계 올림픽을 개최하였다. 도시의 슬로건은 "뮌헨은 당신을 좋아합니다."(München mag Dich)이다. 2006년 이전에 사용하던 모토는 "마음의 세계 도시"(Weltstadt mit Herz)이다. 뮌헨이라는 도시명의 유래는 옛 고산 지대 독일어로 "수도승들의 공간"이라는 뜻을 가진 무니헨(Munichen)에서 유래하였다. 이 도시를 건립한 자들은 베네딕트 칙령 당시의 수도승들이다. 그에 따라, 뮌헨의 휘장에는 수도승이 새겨져 있다. 뮌헨의 시 고유색은 신성 로마 제국을 상징하는 흑색과 금색으로, 루트비히 4세 시절부터 채택하고 있었다.
