Discover Kavala

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Kavala is a city in northern Greece, the principal seaport of eastern Macedonia and the capital of Kavala regional unit.

What makes Kavala so special, you ask? For starters, the city boasts a rich history that dates back to ancient times. From the impressive Kavala Castle, which stands tall on a hilltop overlooking the city, to the ancient ruins of Philippi just a short drive away, history buffs will have plenty to explore.

But it's not just history that makes Kavala worth a visit. The city also has a vibrant food scene, with fresh seafood and local specialties like bougatsa (a sweet pastry) and koulouri (a sesame-seed-covered bread) that you won't find anywhere else. And of course, no trip to Kavala would be complete without indulging in some of the region's famous tsipouro, a strong distilled spirit that's often served as an aperitif.
