Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Litochoro is a town and a former municipality in the southern part of the Pieria regional unit, Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it has been part of the Dio-Olympos municipality, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. It is located at the base of Mount Olympus, on the western shore of the Thermaic Gulf. The first recorded mention of Litochoro is in an account of a visit by Saint Dionysius to Mount Olympus in the 16th century. The town is a popular destination for those wishing to climb Mount Olympus as almost all climbing routes begin to the southwest of the town.

As you wander through the cobblestone streets of the town, you'll be transported back to ancient times. Litochoro was once a sacred city dedicated to the worship of the gods, and you can still see remnants of this history today. The Church of St. Nicholas, located in the town square, was built on the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to Zeus. Take a moment to admire the impressive frescoes that adorn the walls of the church, which date back to the 14th century.

If you're feeling adventurous, lace up your hiking boots and explore the nearby mountains. The Olympus National Park offers a range of trails that cater to all skill levels, from leisurely walks to challenging climbs. The highlight, of course, is the summit of Mount Olympus itself, which stands at an impressive 2,917 meters and is said to be the home of the gods.
