Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Chamarel is a village in Mauritius mainly located in Rivière Noire District. The eastern part of the village lies in the Savanne District. The village is administered by the Chamarel Village Council under the aegis of the Rivière Noire District Council.

As you arrive in Chamarel, the first thing you'll notice is the striking landscape of the Black River Gorges National Park. The park is home to over 300 species of flowering plants, as well as a variety of endemic birds and animals. You can take a guided hike through the park, or even try your hand at zip lining through the treetops for an unforgettable adventure.

Chamarel is also famous for its Seven Coloured Earth, a geological phenomenon that sees sand dunes of different colours (red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow) blending together to create a unique and mesmerising landscape. You can walk around the dunes and take in the stunning views, or learn more about the science behind the phenomenon at the on-site museum.
