Lukang, formerly romanized as Lugang and also known by other names, is an urban township in northwestern Changhua County, Taiwan. The township is on the west coast of Taiwan, facing the Taiwan Strait. Lukang was an important sea port in the 18th century and 19th century. It was the most populous city in central Taiwan until the early 20th century. In March 2012, it was named one of the Top 10 Small Tourist Towns by the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan.
As YOU wander through the streets of Lukang, WE recommend visiting the many temples scattered throughout the town. One of the most famous is the Longshan Temple, which dates back to 1786 and is dedicated to the goddess of mercy, Guanyin. The temple's intricate carvings and colorful decorations are a feast for the eyes.
Another must-see attraction is the Lukang Old Street, where YOU can find an array of local snacks and handicrafts. Try the famous Lukang meatballs or pick up a hand-painted fan as a souvenir. The street is also lined with beautifully restored traditional houses, giving YOU a glimpse into the town's history and culture.
