Discover Ningbo

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Ningbo is a sub-provincial city in the northeast of Zhejiang, People's Republic of China. It comprises six urban districts, two satellite county-level cities, and two rural counties, including several islands in Hangzhou Bay and the East China Sea. Ningbo is the southern economic center of the Yangtze Delta megalopolis, which includes Shanghai among other cities. The port of Ningbo–Zhoushan, spread across several locations, is the world's busiest port by cargo tonnage and the world's third-busiest container port since 2010.

As you explore Ningbo, you'll quickly discover that it's a city of contrasts. On one hand, it boasts a modern skyline and bustling business district, while on the other hand, it's home to ancient temples and traditional gardens. The city's history dates back over 7,000 years, and you'll see evidence of this in the many historic sites and landmarks that are scattered throughout Ningbo.

One of the most popular attractions in the city is the Tianyi Pavilion Library, which was established in 1561 and is the oldest surviving private library in China. It's home to over 300,000 books and manuscripts, many of which date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. You'll also want to visit the Ningbo Museum, which houses a collection of over 100,000 artifacts that showcase the city's rich history.
