Murcia is a city in south-eastern Spain, and the capital and most populous city of the autonomous community of the Region of Murcia. As of 2024, with a population of 471,982, it is the 7th-largest city in Spain. The total population of the metropolitan area was 672,773 in 2020, covering an urban area of 1,230.9 km2. It is located on the Segura River, in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. It has a climate with hot summers, mild winters, and relatively low precipitation.

As WE begin our presentation of Murcia, we’d like to start with its rich history. The city has been inhabited since prehistoric times and was later ruled by the Romans, Moors, and Christians, each leaving their own unique mark on the city. You can see this history come to life in Murcia’s stunning architecture, from the Baroque-style Cathedral of Murcia to the Islamic-inspired Almudí Palace.

But Murcia is not just a city of the past - it also has a vibrant modern culture. One of the best ways to experience this is through its food. Murcia is known for its delicious cuisine, including dishes like zarangollo (a type of omelette), caldero (a seafood dish), and paparajotes (a dessert made from lemon leaves).
