Discover Conwy

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Conwy, previously known in English as Conway, is a walled market town, a community and the administrative centre of Conwy County Borough in North Wales. The walled town and castle stand on the west bank of the River Conwy, facing Deganwy on the east bank. The town formerly lay in Gwynedd, and before that in Caernarfonshire. The community, which also includes Deganwy and Llandudno Junction, had a population of 14,753 at the 2011 census.

The town is perhaps best known for its impressive castle, which dates back to the 13th century. The castle was built by Edward I as part of his campaign to conquer Wales, and today it stands as a testament to the nation's rich history. You can explore the castle's towers and walls, and take in sweeping views of the surrounding countryside from the battlements.

But Conwy isn't just about its castle. The town is also home to a number of other historic buildings, including the Plas Mawr townhouse and the Elizabethan-style Aberconwy House. You can wander the town's streets and alleyways, taking in the charming architecture and getting a sense of what life was like in the past.
