Ercolano is a city and comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Naples in the region of Campania in southern Italy. It lies at the western foot of Mount Vesuvius, on the Gulf of Naples, just southeast of Naples. It has 49,179 inhabitants.

Located in the Campania region, Ercolano boasts a rich history and culture. The town is known for its mesmerizing archaeological site, the Herculaneum ruins, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These ruins are a well-preserved example of an ancient Roman town that was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. You can wander through the narrow streets of the town, explore the houses and shops, and even see the skeletons of the people who were unable to escape the eruption.

Aside from the ruins, Ercolano is also home to some beautiful churches and museums. The Cathedral of Santa Maria a Pugliano is a stunning example of Baroque architecture and houses a painting by Luca Giordano. The MAV (Virtual Archaeological Museum) is an impressive multimedia museum that uses 3D technology to bring the history of Herculaneum to life.
