Meknes is one of the four imperial cities of Morocco, located in northern central Morocco and the sixth largest city by population in the kingdom. Founded in the 11th century by the Almoravids as a military settlement, Meknes became the capital of Morocco during the reign of Sultan Ismail Ibn Sharif (1672–1727), son of the founder of the Alaouite dynasty. Sultan Ismail created a massive imperial palace complex and endowed the city with extensive fortifications and monumental gates.

Located in the northern part of the country, Meknès is a historic city that has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is known for its impressive monuments, medina, and vibrant culture. As you explore this city, you'll be transported back in time to the era of the Moroccan sultanate.

One of the most impressive landmarks in Meknès is the Bab Mansour gate, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful gates in the country. The gate was built in the 18th century and features intricate mosaics and carvings. Another must-visit attraction is the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, which is the final resting place of the sultan who founded Meknès.
