Tema is a city on the Bight of Benin and Atlantic coast of Ghana. It is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) east of the capital city; Accra, in the region of Greater Accra, and is the capital of the Tema Metropolitan District. As of 2013, Tema is the eleventh most populous settlement in Ghana, with a population of approximately 161,612 people – a marked decrease from its 2005 figure of 209,000. The Greenwich Meridian passes directly through the city. It also had the Meridian Rock. Tema is locally nicknamed the "Harbour City" because of its status as Ghana's largest seaport. It consists of 25 different communities which are numbered accordingly with each of them having easy access to the basic amenities.

Tema is a port city located on the Gulf of Guinea, just east of the capital city of Accra. It is a hub for trade and commerce, and is home to Ghana’s largest seaport. While Tema may not be a traditional tourist destination, it is worth a visit for those looking to experience a vibrant African city and explore the country’s industrial heartland.

One of the top attractions in Tema is the stunning Sakumo Lagoon. This natural treasure is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 100 species of birds calling it home. Take a boat tour to get up close and personal with the birds, or simply enjoy a peaceful stroll along the lagoon’s boardwalk.
