Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Hammarstrand is a locality and the seat of Ragunda Municipality in Jämtland County, Sweden with 1,052 inhabitants in 2010. The town is host to a bobsleigh and luge track. It was built on the dry bed of the former lake Ragundasjön, which drained suddenly and catastrophically in 1796.

As you wander through the streets of Hammarstrand, you'll be struck by the quaintness of the place. The town is small and cozy, with a population of just over 800 people. However, despite its size, Hammarstrand has a rich history that dates back to the Viking era. You can explore the remnants of this history at the nearby Viking burial ground, where you'll find ancient artifacts and runes.

But Hammarstrand is not just a place for history buffs. The town is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, including the Indalsälven River and the nearby mountains. You can take a hike through the forest trails, or rent a bike and explore the countryside. The town also offers fishing opportunities, with plenty of salmon and trout in the local rivers.
