The Lovat, Loch Ness

Fort Augustus is a settlement in the parish of Boleskine and Abertarff, at the south-west end of Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands. The village has a population of around 620 (2020). Its economy is heavily reliant on tourism.

Nestled between the picturesque Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal, Fort Augustus offers a unique blend of history, culture, and nature. Its rich heritage is visible in the numerous historic buildings and landmarks that dot the town, including the impressive Fort Augustus Abbey, which now serves as a school. The town’s strategic location also makes it a hub for water-based activities such as boating, fishing, and kayaking.

But what sets Fort Augustus apart is its proximity to some of Scotland’s most spectacular natural sights. The town lies at the southern end of the Great Glen, a geological fault that stretches for 60 miles through the Highlands. This makes it an excellent base for exploring the surrounding mountains and glens, including the famous Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest peak.
