Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.
Clovelly is a privately owned harbour village in the Torridge district of Devon, England. The settlement and surrounding land belongs to John Rous, who inherited it from his mother in 1983. He belongs to the Hamlyn family, who have managed the village since 1738.
As you approach Clovelly, you'll notice the steep and narrow cobbled streets that wind their way down to the harbor. This is because Clovelly is a car-free village, so you'll need to park at the top of the hill and make your way down on foot. But don't worry – the walk is well worth it. As you stroll through the village, you'll be transported back in time to a bygone era. The quaint white-washed cottages, flower-filled gardens, and traditional fishing boats create a timeless atmosphere that's both charming and peaceful.
One of the highlights of Clovelly is its fascinating history. The village dates back to the 13th century, and its heritage is still evident today. The Clovelly Court Gardens, for example, were designed in the 18th century and feature exotic plants from around the world. The Clovelly Museum is also worth a visit, as it showcases the village's rich maritime history and displays artifacts from its past.
