Discover Wadi Rum

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Wadi Rum (Arabic: وادي رم Wādī Ramm, also Wādī al-Ramm, known also as the Valley of the Moon or Red mountains, is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southern Jordan, near the border with Saudi Arabia and about 60 km to the east of the city of Aqaba. With an area of 720 km2 it is the largest wadi in Jordan.

Wadi Rum is a protected desert wilderness that covers over 720 square kilometers. Its unique landscape is dotted with towering sandstone cliffs, narrow gorges, and vast sand dunes. The area is also home to Bedouin tribes, who have lived in the region for centuries and offer a glimpse into traditional desert life.

One of the best ways to experience Wadi Rum is through a guided tour, which can be arranged through local tour operators. These tours can take YOU through the heart of the valley, where YOU can explore ancient rock art and visit landmarks like the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, a rock formation named after the book by T.E. Lawrence.
