Discover Poros

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Poros is a small Greek island-pair in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf, about 58 km south of the port of Piraeus and separated from the Peloponnese by a 200 m (656 ft) wide sea channel, with the town of Galatas on the mainland across the strait. Its surface area is about 31 square kilometres (12 sq mi) and it has 3,261 inhabitants (2021). The ancient name of Poros was Pogon. Like other ports in the Saronic, it is a popular weekend destination for Athenian travellers.

Located just an hour away from Athens by ferry, Poros is a small but picturesque island that is perfect for a quick getaway. The island is separated into two parts, Sferia and Kalavria, which are connected by a bridge. Sferia is the smaller part of the island and is home to the main town, while Kalavria is the larger and more mountainous part of the island.

One of the main attractions in Poros is the stunning beaches. The crystal-clear waters and soft sandy beaches make it the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun. The most popular beaches on the island are Askeli, Love Bay, and Russian Bay, each with its own unique charm.
