Bukhara is the seventh-largest city in Uzbekistan by population, with 305,500 residents as of 2026. It is the capital of Bukhara Region. Since ancient times, Bukhara was one of the most prosperous cities in Transoxiana alongside neighbouring Samarkand owing to its location on Silk Road. Today its historic core is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As you walk through the winding streets of Bukhara, you'll feel as if you've stepped back in time. The city has been inhabited for over 2,500 years and has been a center of trade and culture for much of that time. You'll see stunning examples of Islamic architecture that have been preserved over the centuries, including the Kalyan Minaret, which stands at 47 meters tall and was built in the 12th century.

This massive structure was once the residence of the Emirs of Bukhara and has been restored to its former glory.
