Tarent [taˈrɛnt] ist eine Stadt mit 185.112 Einwohnern in der italienischen Region Apulien und Hauptort der Provinz Tarent. Tarent liegt am Golf von Tarent im Ionischen Meer. Tarent, das einst von griechischen Siedlern gegründet wurde, ist die Stadt der zwei Meere und der Ponte Girevole, deren antikes Zentrum die rund 34 Hektar große Insel Isola del Borgo Antico bildet, die das Mittelmeer (Mar Grande) von einer hinter der Insel liegenden Lagune (Mar Piccolo) trennt.
