Ostia Antica is the modern name given to the ancient Roman city of Ostia. It became the port city of Rome located at the mouth of the Tiber and is near modern Ostia, 25 km (16 mi) southwest of Rome. Due to silting of the coastline from the river, the site now lies 3 km (2 mi) from the sea. The name Ostia derives from Latin os 'mouth'.

Ostia Antica was once a thriving port city during the Roman Empire, serving as the gateway to Rome for goods and people from all over the world. Today, the city remains remarkably preserved, offering a glimpse into daily life during ancient times. As you wander through the well-preserved ruins, you will see the remains of an amphitheater, public baths, temples, and houses, all of which provide fascinating insights into the lives of the people who once lived here.

One of the most impressive structures in Ostia Antica is the ancient theater, which could hold up to 4,000 spectators. This theater was once the center of entertainment in the city, hosting everything from plays to gladiator fights. Today, the theater is still used for performances during the summer months, providing a unique opportunity to experience ancient entertainment in a modern setting.
