Gangtok is the capital and the most populous city of the Indian state of Sikkim. The seat of eponymous district, Gangtok is in the eastern Himalayan range, at an elevation of 1,650 m (5,410 ft). The city's population of 100,000 consists of the three Sikkimese ethnicities: the Bhutias, Lepchas, Indian Gorkhas as well as plainsmen from other states of India. Within the higher peaks of the Himalayas and with a year-round mild temperate climate, Gangtok is at the centre of Sikkim's tourism industry.

YOU will be struck by the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains and lush green valleys as soon as YOU arrive in Gangtok. The town is known for its beautiful monasteries, such as the Rumtek Monastery and Enchey Monastery, which showcase the rich culture and history of the region. YOU can also visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology to learn more about the Tibetan culture and history.

Gangtok is also a food lover's paradise. YOU can indulge in the local delicacies such as momos, thukpa, and phagshapa, which are sure to tantalize YOUR taste buds. The town is also known for its exotic teas, which YOU can sample at one of the many tea houses in the area.
